The Department of Mathematics at the College of Science, University of Basrah, is one of the leading departments in academic education and scientific research in the field of Mathematics. The department aims to equip students with the knowledge and skills needed in various areas of Mathematics, while developing their analytical abilities and capacity to solve complex mathematical problems. The Department of Mathematics is one of the founding departments of the University of Basrah, established in 1964. It began as a small department, with most of its faculty members being foreign. The first batch of graduates was in the 1967/1968 academic year, with only 15 graduates. Currently, the department is considered one of the largest mathematics departments in Iraq, with the number of faculty members reaching 66.
