About Department of Mathematics / College of Education for Pure Sciences:
The Department of Mathematics was established in 1975-1976, and after the split of the college in 2012-2013 into two colleges, one purely scientific and the other humanities, the Department of Mathematics became one of the departments of the Faculty of Education for Pure Sciences. The department currently has 720 students for the four stages of undergraduate study and 43 teaching staff in various branches of mathematics as well as a group of external lecturers. The department awards a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics Education after preparing students for four years, after which graduates work as teachers in secondary schools, vocational schools and Iraqi institutes. Thus, the Department of Mathematics is considered one of the most important in supplying the labour market with highly qualified scientific cadres. For the purpose of providing graduates with the opportunity to specialise in mathematics, in 2004-2005, postgraduate master's studies were introduced, followed by doctoral studies in 2015-2016.
The Department of Mathematics aspires to develop the use of mathematics in accordance with the needs of society, and to gain international recognition in the fields of scientific research and teaching by achieving the standards of the National Council for Accreditation of Educational Group Colleges Programme.
